Run Of The Mill

Yum. I do so love my time at the mill.

I was given Mother’s Day weekend all to myself (sort of). The Mister has been MIA since the start of tax season and this was the first time in a long time I had a couple days without having to keep up with Girl Child. So where did I go?

runofthemill003

To the second Saturday spin-in at the mill, of course. Where’d you think I was going to go? Honestly, the spinners weren’t the first thing I saw when I got there though.

This was.

Heather was dyeing with some madder root. She was in and out of the mill checking on it here and there. I’m thinking those dyed skeins at the head of this post are hers. It’s just a guess.

Her mad scientist gear. Heather’s an awesome natural dyer.

She was even mordanting more yarn to be dyed over. You know how I love multi-tasking! Guess that makes her a dye-hard dyer (get it, lol).

In the mill she was spinning on this.

Now this is fluff from her bunny. Can you say jealous?

I used to have a bunny right before I got preggo with Boy Child. Little did I know I was a spinner before I was a spinner. Boy Child was my first, and when I read about toxoplasmosis, I gave my bunny, Snowball, away to family that took very good care of him until he passed many years later.

His fluff wasn’t nearly so long though. But boy was it soft. So is Heather’s bunny’s fluff. Look at this!

Is it okay that I’m a little jealous because I don’t have a bunny that sits near me and lets me pet him when he gets to know me, clicks his heels when he sees me, and contributes to my fiber supply on a regular basis?

Next, I got to be jealous of Laurel for a little bit. Get a load of this…

This is her anniversary spindle from her hubby. Swoon!! It’s a custom-made Golding. I think Goldings are her favorite spindles of all time. Her father was a woodworker and she really enjoys the craftsmanship of their spindles.

Look at the light picking up the red in those stones around the whorl. Just gorgeous.

As if that wasn’t enough…

runofthemill013

Can you even stand her?! That’s just beautiful, isn’t it? Sigh.

Then, Ricky and a friend of hers was there spinning on their spindles too.

Mmmhmmm…Another Golding.

Yes, if you must know, I’m itching for one.

But, I still have this baby to keep me warm…

And as soon as I get through with these fall colors, it will do just that.
